My Independent Bournemouth
MyIndependent > Bournemouth
Bournemouth isn’t the first place you would think of when looking for a lovely selection of unique independent shops and you’d be right.
The two main shopping streets – Old Christchurch Road and Commercial Road – are full of the usual high street chains such as New Look, TopShop, Zara, WH Smith, TK Maxx, Superdry, Sports Direct, River Island, Primark, Lush, JD Sports, House of Fraser, Debenhams, H&M, Fat Face, Flying Tiger, Schuh, The Works, Superdrug, The Body Shop, Boots, Clarks, H Samuel, Pandora, Costas, Starbucks, MacDonalds, Burger King, Caffe Nero, Pret a Manger and Greggs to name only a few ! Some chains such as Costas, Starbucks, Coffee Nero and Greggs have more than one outlet.
In fact when I was walking around town looking for an independent shop I found it really difficult to find one. Even some of the ones that I thought were local and family run were in fact part of a larger national chain. It’s probably because the rent and rates are too expensive in the town centre and it’s just too much of a risk for a small independent shop to set up. If you want to find the smaller indie shops then you’ll have to travel a bit further afield to Boscombe, Pokesdown, Southbourne, Chrminster or Winton.
Obviously if you are coming from a small town then the shops at Bournemouth may be exactly what you are looking for but if you are coming from a similar sized or larger city then there probably won’t be too much to excite you here.
