Branksome Dene Beach

Branksome Dene Beach is a sleepy little beach that thinks it’s still in the 1950s. Very little has changed. The beach is situated at the bottom of a woody chine (small river valley), so it’s often referred to as Branksome Dene Chine Beach. There’s quite a large car park overlooking the beach and a nice group of vintage beach huts at the bottom of the path leading on to the promenade. There is an ice-cream kiosk on the beach front and plenty of drinking water taps. Apart from that there’s very little beach front activity which is just how the locals like it. There are toilets in the car park as well as a council-run community hall which can also be hired out for wedding receptions or kids parties.

The secret of Branksome Dene’s peace and quiet is probably due to the fact that the entrance to the car park is difficult to find and only locals know about it. Just to help you the Sat Nav postcode is BH13 6JP and the small access road is located next to number 27 Pinewood Road (I’ve included a photo of the entrance at the bottom of the page together with car park charges and details).

There are no lifeguard patrols on this beach. The beach is also a designated dog exercise area all year round so if you don’t like dogs running amok then this may not be the beach for you. I personally don’t have a dog but I always love to see how excited dogs get when they arrive at the beach and they are let off their lead. If you want a no-dog beach with lifeguards, restaurants and beach shops then just take a 5 minute walk west along the prom to Branksome Chine Beach.
